Fire Ecology Institute for Educators-Florissant

Wildfire is scientific, fascinating, relevant, emotional and natural.

Join us for a full week of HOT topics and BURNING issues guaranteed to SPARK student interest in reading, writing and investigating relevant natural resource issues such as fire, floods, bugs and drought. The Black Forest, Waldo Canyon, Springer, Hayman and Buffalo Creek fires provide the backdrop to our explorations. Agenda includes field studies, technology, lesson planning, literature, multimedia, GIS and more. Take home a CACHE of materials and resources including Project Learning Tree activity guides, kits, experiments, posters, teacher-created materials, multimedia and  grant opportunities. Through field experiences, guest experts, articles, books, multimedia, experiments and activities, you’ll take away more than enough to teach about fire and forest ecology for a day, a week or a semester. Appropriate for 3rd-12th grades, formal and non-formal, interdisciplinary subjects.

Long days, some moderately strenuous activity, indoors and out. No nap time! No whining! Fun days!   Map

Tree Ring Research (RMTRR), and the USFS Rocky Mt. Research Station (RMRS).
